Salman Khan made his acting debut in the 1988 film Biwi Ho To Aisi where he played a supporting role.

In Maine Pyar Kiya is his first leading role in a Bollywood film. The film was a big hit in India and one of the highest grossing film. In 1990 his only film was Baaghi with southern heart throb Nagma. This film too was also a big hit.

In 1991 he had three hit film including Sajan. In 2007 he appeared in his first Hollywood movie, Marigold: An Adventure in India opposite American actress Ali Larter.
